Back

Well the route wasn't direct Seattle-Phoenix-NY-Dubai-Kenya and US airways has to be about the worst carrier around (thankfully our longer flights were on Air Emirates), but we have arrived back. It's been great to have Kiersten and Jason visiting us the next two weeks. Amelia was thrilled to return to school and Meredith is back playing daily with her BFF Claire. Our house had new spider webs, spiders, and a few other bugs, but generally seemed okay with our extended absence. The fish, dog and bunny also were still alive thanks to our neighbors. For now our biggest hassle is a non-working modem which means no internet access at our house. Hopefully it will get going by this weekend! After enjoying such easy access to family and friends while in the States the loss of connectivity is particularly annoying.

Hey Sara,

Wish I had your email because this is going to be an around the world connection, and its a bit long for a blog comment.

I lived with Tony and Joanne Fuller in Olderkesi for four months in 2009. My husband (boyfriend at the time) Taylor came to visit and we came to Tenwek because he is in medical school. Anyway, we had dinner with you, Malin and the girls last May at your home. I know you host a ton of people week in and week out and totally don't expect you to remember me.

However, tonight at our bible study a girl asked for prayer because she is leaving Monday to do a surgical rotation in Kijabe Kenya. I totally freaked, first with jealousy, and then with a sense of connection from the past to the present.

I see that ya'll have just returned so I'm not sure if you are back into the flow of work or if you will even be in the same place that she will be, but I gave her your name (with a copy of Miracle at Tenwek...good introduction to African Medicine!). Her name is Samantha Dallefeld, she is a third year med student...which I guess is out of the ordinary, she said they normally only take 4th years or interns but that a spot opened up and they picked her. All that to say, I think she's pretty nervous.

Alright, enough for now! If you need my email its trudyhoward@gmail.com.

Hope ya'll can connect.

Best regards-
